Challenge

We began working with iDefense shortly after the company emerged from bankruptcy protection. Our mandate was to create a clear leadership position in new market for proactive solutions, while far larger competitors were focusing attention on after-the-fact anti-virus tools.

Strategy

We were intricately involved in positioning the company for value, as well as a strong media presence.

We leveraged the company’s unique access to intelligence to make the security team recognized industry leaders – positioning them as the insightful experts unmatched by anyone in the public sector.

A targeted media outreach program cultivated key reporters. We shared confidential information that ultimately helped shape highly visible pieces that appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Forbes and Businessweek, as well as key trades, and broadcast news programs.

ROI

The company was acquired by VeriSign in the summer of 2005, and its core messages formed the core of VeriSign’s new security services. We drove more than 1,100 pieces of coverage that year.

In a clear departure from its established policy, VeriSign’s worked with Corporate Ink long after the acquisition was completed.
