Marissa Mayer understands that. Rumor is that Yahoo will pick one device to spotlight its products, and Mayer wants all employees – not just those in R&D – to be intimately familiar with how their products work on that device. (Sounds like a great reason to me for every employee to get an iPhone.)
I’m not saying every CEO needs to start handing out iPhones, but they should demand that everyone in a company – from engineering to sales to customer service to marketing – understand the value prop of their products and services. This is an easy change that can lead to better customer service and a renewed sense of ownership in a company by its employees.
